On This Day

Mankind's life on the planet has been defined by brief moments in time where his greatest
strength, his mind and imagination, have come together to propel civilization forward in
leaps and bounds. Historical moments stand as mileposts to modern living, and many
historical notables have paved the way for additional reforms, discoveries, and revelations
about mankind's relationship to others, the environment, and himself. These days in
history offer us a glimpse, at a glance, of where mankind has been, and gives rise to where
mankind may go in the future, if given enough support from his fellow human beings. The
list that follows gives a nod to those moments that have come before, laid the ground
work for more milestones in the not too distant past, and have led to more memorable
occasions in the current day. But like any family album, there are painful moments, too;
thase blips on the human timeline that are as indelible a blemish on the fine fabric of the
human soul as any. They also are included so that they serve as a reminder of who we
were on our worst days, and to encourage us to look toward those times when we shone
as a species, and for a moment, transcended borders, race, religion or creed, and moved
the civilization of the planet forward.
