The illustrated poster is more than printed sheet of paper glued to a wall. It is a fine art form and offers a mirror onto society, its fashions, foibles, obsessions, products and services. All these impressions are frozen in a moment in time in ink, like an insect in amber. At a time when literacy rates were low and mass media hadn't been invented, the ephemeral poster offered a point of direct connection with the community.
