PRODUCT OVERVIEW

product description

After perfecting a process for making wire wheels with ball-baerings, Peter Gendron formed the Gendron Iron Wheel Company in 1880. By the 1890's, Gendron Products included a full line of children's wheeled toys, wicker furniture, baby carriages and bicycles. Pedal cars were first manufactured in about 1905. In the early part of the century Toledo, Ohio was known as the bicycle manufacturing capital of the United States, and by the late 1930's Toldedo's major toy vehicle manufactures consolidated. This includes Gendron, Toledo Metal Wheel Company and American Wheel Company. These companies manufactured pedal cars marketed under the names Pioneer, Skippy, American, National, Speed King, Sky Sking, Express, Streamline, Reliance, Hi-Speed, and Hi-Way. In 1941, the entity was incorporated as the Gendron Wheel Company.

Wrold War II forced Gendron to shift its product focus from toys to wheel chairs, stretchers, and other related types of medical equipment. Though Gendron still continued to manufacture some play ground equipemtn and wood wagons through the 1960's, your 1940 Gendron Pioneer Roadster Pedal Car was the last series of pedal car vehicles they produced. Your Trustworthy Crate Truck is a customized version of a Gendron 1940 Pioneer Roadster Pedal Car. The 1:6 scale replica is a faithful reproduction of the original.
